And now we're going to send weapons to Syria

Postby Ireneb » Tue May 28, 2013 12:50 am

Supposedly only to secular groups, not jihadists. As if we could control the supply chain once the guns and ammo reach the Middle East. I feel so very sorry for the ordinary Syrians, trying to go about their daily business, squeezed between a government and rebels that have no hesitation in killing them when it suits them.

As this situation becomes more confused and messy, I don't know any longer which side to support.

Only think that usually women haven't benefited much from the revolutions in the Middle East if reports from Egypt are anything to go by, or if you look at Iran.

Somehow I think that getting rid of Assad is not going o solve anything - some other monster will just step in and take over. I think Syria has become a terrorist playground, Hezbollah is involved - if they get their hands on new weaponry you can just imagine what their next target is going to be. Damn, what a mess .

Turkey is on edge I'm sure. They have a more restrictive group trying to gain influence on their home front.
I keep hoping one of those revolutions will actually be good for the average family. I know too optimistic but I will still hope.

Guess we're gonna party like it's 1989. You know, when we sent weapons to that "good guy" in Afghanistan. You might have heard of him. Osama bin Laden. Ring a bell?

This *never* ends well. Except in cases of genocide, I think we sent in the diplomats. Tough-minded, cagey, realpolitik sons-of-bitches who don't quit till the job is done. Like Hillary Clinton. Where are you when we need you?

Probably tired of the old white man shit.

I would like us to only do good but that is a pipe dream.

Russia is going to sell anti aircraft missiles to Syria, presumably they think the West is going to send in aircraft to enforce a no-fly zone, like they did in Libya. Janey, as you say, this never ends well. Specially not for the ordinary man and woman in the street.

All we should be sending to Syria is medicine and blankets and food and diaper and formula, and bottled water. More weapons is not the answer. They got a shit ton of that now, as all the displaced or deceased citizens can attest.

So, do y'all think that the U.S. should go in guns-a-blazing ?

DO they have oil?

Are we to be the world police again?

yeah, this Syria thing is one of those fucked up U.N. issues. They pass a resolution condemning it... SHAME ON SYRIA and ASSAD.

But they won't do anything... who is going to pay for it?

The Australians? LOL... they are 1% of the global economy.
